Our Technology

Sample6 Technologies is a dynamic startup company at the intersection of breakthroughs in synthetic biology, sensors, and data modeling and visualization. The company’s mission is to improve the health and safety of global consumers by building integrated systems that can quickly and easily detect harmful and unwanted bacteria in the food, healthcare, and other industries.

Our technology is based on a proprietary Bioillumination Platform™ developed by MIT professor Tim Lu and Dr. Michael Koeris in the lab of Professor James Collins at Boston University, one of the nation's foremost labs in synthetic biology. The platform allows for the rapid engineering of bioparticles that cause bacteria to effectively “light up” when a specific bacterium is identified. The platform can be applied to a narrow set of bacterial strains or a panel of bacterial species. We couple this capability with highly sensitive sensor technology that can detect low levels of pathogens in hours or faster, all on-site.

Sample6's product is an on-site, easy-to-use pathogen detection platform. The product will:

  • Monitor the major pathogens that cause illness and detect positive findings in hours
  • Provide ongoing monitoring and trending over time
  • Improve food safety and infection control programs
  • Enable data-driven decision making before problems develop

In the near future, Sample6’s technology will be flexible enough to monitor environmental pathogens in a broad variety of food, healthcare, and other large institutions.
